Mount Adams or “Pahto”
Thanks for choosing Heritage University’s annual student-operated online literary journal, Pahto’s Shadow. In the spirit of Dr. Loren Schmidt’s original webzine launched in 1997, we cordially invite readers to participate in its revival.
For those of you whom serendipity has brought this way, Heritage University is an independent liberal arts and sciences college located on the Yakama Indian Reservation in Toppenish, Washington. “Pahto” refers to Mount Adams in Sahaptin, the language of Yakama Nation. Mt. Adams looms large on the horizon here in the Yakima Valley, and all who dwell here live in its shadow.
Heritage University engages a potpourri of all peoples from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Please join us as we explore poetry, prose, personal essays, and photography.
Some people think books are dead, but stories are alive and continue to be told. Long live literature!
